You know what makes my heart go pitter-patter? Ok, so lots of things make my heart go pitter-patter…flowers, a good book, sushi, looking out over my beautiful backyard, ice cream, a trip to Home Goods, the ocean, fall leaves, my children. But you know what REALLYmakes my heart go pitter-patter…my wonderful, godly, manly, funny, handsome husband…who loves to garden and even better loves to make his own pickles! I mean really ladies could you ask for more than that??
His “pickling” talent has been interesting for me, because unlike most other aspects of cooking in our home, I take the back seat on this venture. And by backseat, I mean not the passenger seat but the BACKSEAT because the girl is his picking sous chef. I’m truly the third wheel, relegated to chopping up cucumbers, squash and onions
and icing them down
and cleaning up afterwords. I love that this is “their” thing they do together. There’s nothing more special than a daddy and his girl working side by side in the kitchen, turning out delicious treats made from food they grew in their own garden.
So thank you, darling of my heart, for making pickles with your daughter….the moments are fleeting but the memories will be with her forever! I hope my husband's pickling adventures will Inspire you to get your family in the kitchen and start cooking together! It doesn't have to be something complicated, just pick a simple recipe and start cooking!
The memories you make will be food for your soul!
This post is linked up to my sister's blog Southern In My Heart where she is hosting an Inspiration Friday party. Have you blogged about something this week that has inspired you? If so head on over there and link up!
PS-This is where you are now asking yourself, but where's the recipe?? Well, there isn't one for now. Why you ask?? Because my husband holds his pickling recipe pretty close to the chest. See he's perfected this recipe over several years of pickling and he's not sure if he's ready to "share" with the world. I mean who knows, we could be the next Claussens!.... cricket... cricket..... Okay, maybe not. So tell me what you think...Is it okay to keep some recipes secret or should you share them?
